Junior youthery

Junior youth in KiribatiMaintaining a blog is like constantly having unanswered email. Not writing nags at you, like a broken promise. Matters were beyond my control the last several days, however, and I've been away from the computer spending time with people about half my age.

One of the great things about the Baha'i community is that life is always taking an unexpected direction. In our area we're trying to expand programs for the spiritual empowerment of junior youth (11-14 year olds). These aren't 'religious education' classes, per se -- they're groups meant to help young people to build moral structure and to be of service to their communities. There's a terrific group here in Oxford that's mostly Nepalese (led by Clare, et al), and on Friday Lita and I were training a few older youth to take over the group as animators.  This weekend, I was staying with Ismael in Chippenham, where the Baha'is are trying to establish a junior youth group in his neighbourhood.

Most memorable part: being invited into the home of a man who asked us to tell him about Baha'i children's classes, while he got dressed in front of the TV.

So, great weekend. No internet. I'm tired. But for some great photos of Baha'i community activities around the world, check out a selection of stunning shots by our friend Ryan.
